(Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding 3 plus) is an improved version of Sony’s original ATRAC3 codec, originally designed for the mini-disc (MD) format. The latest version analyzes a longer period of sound to obtain more information about the original signal and uses a new algorithm that provides optimal bit allocation when changing the audio signal in a wide range. The result is the higher sound quality with higher signal compression.
